Meet Megan, the WCI's Media Specialist

by: Megan Nelson, Media Specialist (also Leader Couple in Firth, NE)

First, thank you for giving me the opportunity to introduce myself. I was born and raised in southwest Iowa, in a small town called Treynor. I now call Firth, Nebraska, my home. My husband, Nick, and I have been happily married for 15 years this year. We were married in 2010 while Nick was serving on Active Duty in the US Army.

Over the years, our family has had the incredible opportunity to travel across the country and the world. From 2010 to 2016, we moved from Kentucky to Georgia to Bavaria, Germany, and finally the Mojave Desert of California. During that time, we were blessed to welcome our first two children, Brayden and Natalie, into the world. Our family was growing, and with each move, we embraced the adventure, the challenges, and the blessings that came with it.

In 2018, Nick made the decision to transition from Active Duty to the National Guard, which led us to settle down in Nebraska. We decided to put down roots and build a little homestead just south of Lincoln. Since then, we've expanded our family and our property in ways we never could have imagined. We’ve welcomed horses, a variety of poultry, a goat, barn cats, two wonderful livestock guardian dogs, and, of course, two more children—Sybilina and Thomas Jozef—into our home. This year, we’re excited to welcome our 5th little one, who is due to join the crew in July. We enjoy trying our best at homeschooling and homesteading on the 20 acres God has entrusted to us.

This past Summer (2024), the Holy Spirit intervened through social media algorithms to put Peter and Theresa's interview with Chris Stefanick in front of me. The timing was remarkable. Nick and I had just finished teaching a Natural Family Planning course that had been particularly difficult. We love pouring into engaged couples through the ministry of teaching Theology of the Body and Natural Family Planning, but in this moment we were feeling lonely. The Rule came at just the right time when we needed community with other couples striving for a Christ-centered marriage.

Being a part of the WCI community has been such a blessing. I feel incredibly privileged to be able to contribute to and work with such an amazing group of people who are all focused on the universal call to holiness and understand the importance of living out their marriage vocation in that journey. The enemy is constantly at work trying to attack marriages and families, and I feel deeply called to stand with others who are also committed to honoring the beauty of marriage as God intended it. I am truly honored to do my small part in spreading the good news of God's incredible plan for marriage through Pope Saint John Paul II's Rule with JOY.
