There are many ways that we can support organizations or movements that the Lord places in our heart and in our life. Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also”(Matt 6:21). Where you spend your time and money are good indicators of the priorities in your life.
So, what are your priorities? As I write this, we are in the wonderfully joyful season of preparation known as Advent.
During this season of Advent, as we prepare the gifts and feasts for Christmas, we might overlook or miss another important area for giving. Supporting the WCI is not only about how much money I should give. There are so many other ways the Lord can call us to support His work.
First is prayer. In the WCI, the Married Couple Groups all commit to praying with their spouse, for other couples, and for all the couples in the WCI. We first ask for your prayers. Another way to support the WCI is to talk about it with those close to you. If you’ve read The Rule, share it with other couples. Give it as a gift. If you haven’t read The Rule, go to the Lord in prayer asking if you should. If you have read The Rule, commit to living St. John Paul II’s Rule. Often the witness of how we live is far more impactful than what we say. Let your life and marriage be a witness to the world of the joy and love of Christ.
Another way to support the WCI is to talk with your Pastor about The Rule, or you can contact the Office of Family Life in your Diocese to introduce them to The Rule. If there are any events in your area (or close by) consider attending one, and bring a friend.
Lastly, you can donate to the WCI and support its mission of supporting spouses who wish to follow the Rule of St. John Paul II. The organization operates solely on the generosity of others, and all of its staff are volunteers. I can speak for everyone involved in this ministry to tell you how grateful we are for any type of support you can give.
Why do I support the WCI? Here it is: joyful expectation. I believe that the work our Lord called Peter and Theresa Martin to begin is brought to our world at the time when it is needed the most. Theresa’s story of discovering the Rule is not as amazing as it is Providential. I support the WCI because of a joyful expectation of what is to come. It is my prayer that you find the time this Advent to step back and take stock on your life and priorities. Ask the Lord where He is calling you. And, as you wait and listen, get excited for the joy that is to come.
